“Pray for Those in Authority: This Is Good and Pleasing”
pray without ceasing
IThimothi 2:1-2 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
Ephesians 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,
Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God
1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing;
“pray without ceasing,” can be confusing. Obviously, it cannot
mean we are to be in a head-bowed, eyes-closed posture all day long. Paul is not referring to non-stop talking but rather an attitude of God-consciousness
and God-surrender that we carry with us all the time. Every
waking moment is to be lived in an awareness that God is with
us and that He is actively involved and engaged in our thoughts
and actions.
Ephesians 5:20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ |
to God, even the Father;
Colossians 1:12
Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the
inheritance of the saints in Light.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you,
with all wisdom teaching and admonishing
one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
"All men" - our prayers should not be restricted to our
little circle of relatives and friends, but should be as
the world.
Paul says pray for rules, not criticize them. He indicates
here that the prayers of Christian believers can
influence the course of events in a country. This is true
even when those in authority are not believers and may
even be opposed to them.
Perhaps one reason why in some countries are not able
to live peaceful and quiet lives is that they fail to pray
for their rulers as they ought.
