Prayer is communicating with God
What is Prayer?
One of the key things we need to discover right in the
beginning is what prayer is. Look at the following statements and
mark the one that comes the closest to the meaning of prayer for
you.
- Prayer is bowing your head and closing your eyes and saying
important sounding words to God
- Prayer is asking God for help
- Prayer is our attempt as humans to contact the supernatural
- Prayer is communicating with God
- Prayer is something you do before meals and bedtime
- Prayer is telling God
what the scriptures say about prayer
What does Hebrews 4:16 say about prayer?
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then approach the throne of grace with
confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to
help us in our time of need.
The “throne if grace” refers to coming before God in prayer.
We should go to God with confidence. Through prayer we will find
mercy and grace to meet our deepest need.
Prayer in its simplest form is talking with God. Some of
the other ideas above may have elements of truth, but prayer is
basically communicating with Him. God wants us to approach His
throne with our needs. He is a King that is very personal.
He
wants to respond to us! Therefore anyone can pray! There will be
growth as you will discover in Book 2 of confident Christianity, but
the truth of the matter is that all Christians have an open door to
God through prayer.
