Assurance of salvation
Assurance
of salvation
I John 5:13
I Have written these things to you who believe on the name of the son of God,
so that you may know that you have eternal life, and you may believe on the
name of the Son of God.
God
does want believers in Christ to be doubtful about their salvation. They have
eternal life, and they should know that they have it.
How
can believers be sure they are saved? What is the evidence, what are the signs
John points to?
Assurance
of salvation comes from the following:
By
believing the testimony of God in His Word ( I John 5:9 If receive the
testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for his is the testimony of
God which he has given concerning his son. Vs 11 God has given to us eternal
life and this life is in his Son).
BY the
inner testimony of God’s Spirit ( I John 5:10 He who believes on the Son of God
has this testimony in himself. He who does believe God has made him liar, because
he does believe in the record that God gave about his Son).
By relying on the promise of the forgiveness of sins (I John 1:9 if
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness)
.
BY evidence of obedience of God ( I John 5:2 By this we know that we
love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commands).
By the evidence of fruit of love in our lives (I John 3:18 MY little
children, let us not love in the word or in tongue, but in deed and truth).
Full assurance of salvation is based on three things-
The written Word of God
The inner experience of believers
The outer evidence of way they live and love.
