Are you Depression
Yes, the Bible shows you how to deal with anxiety, guilt, and worry. The Bible shows you practical steps to take in order to be happy. The best way to conquer worry and make yourself happy. OK, it is not so easy especially when you are pursued by this demon of depression. Yet it is possible. It's no use telling a person whose joints are twisted and who knows no other way to walk than in clumsy steps to walk gracefully. The joints need to be straightened and the man trained to walk properly. Yes, you can stop depression and be truly happy. You would need to straighten your mind and train your body. Let the Bible through this page show you the way. Depression is a problem of the mind. It happens when your mind gives undue attention to minor incidences in the past. You also worry when you imagine a worst event is about to happen in the future. Therefore, your goal is to undo this habit and form a better or alternative habit to replace it.
Rufuse to worry
Have you visited a beautiful farm land recently? Jesus says your life worries are like thorns on such farms. ~ Luke 8:14
Think of it for a minute. That beautiful farm is your life and the ugly weeds are your life worries. If you allow thorns to keep on growing they will choke your life out of existence because of depression.
The farm could not produce any fruits. So also worry and depression make you less productive, at home and on your job.
Remember it's easy to grow the thorns which give depression or worry. Start pursuing the less important things in your life. Get your focus on the wrong thing or face a wrong direction in life. You soon realize that when the important issues come, you have no energy or time to pursue it.
You resources are drain out through depression.
It takes no effort from you to breed the thorns of worry. Yes, this is because worry is a habit. Like any other habits it happens without you thinking about it. So you worry without even knowing you do.
Jesus says, "Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear..." ~ Matthew 6:25
Yet you see how easy it is to enter the race in pursuit of food, clothes beautiful cars, money and pleasure, fashion and the other vanities of this world.
You know the danger and how easy it is for such pursuits to distract you from the most important things in life.
They could easily take root and crowd your life and hinder you from seeking first and the most important thing. Jesus taught his followers to postpone their worry.
Defer depression for just a day and you have won the battle.
Take care of today. God will take care of tomorrow:
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."~ Matthew 6: 34 (NIV)
Cast Off Your Burden
Winter everywhere is a period when people wear their thickest winter jacket. A little heave to wear for every day job. You have seen your spouse enter the house with his wither jacket on. I bet you the first thing he would want is that this unnecessary load be off soonest. So she looks out for the right place to quickly cast the jacket and be free of the burden.
You are not to be a burden bearer. God created you to shift your burden on Him. He invites you to remove your worry so that He can bear it for you:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest." ~ Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."
~ 1 Peter 5:7(NIV).
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." ~ Philippians 4:6-7.
You have carried your heavy burden of worry, guilt and shame for too long. It's time to drop them. Come to Jesus and leave them at the foot of His Cross. Forget them there. Jesus cares for you. He will pick and lift you up.
Cast your burden on Him in prayer. Tell Him to take care of you and your worries. Why not do it right now?
Depression Results from Bad Thinking Habits
For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: he hath no standing grain; the blade shall yield no meal; if so be it yield, strangers shall swallow it up.~Hosea 8:7
To conquer any bad habit, you would need to train you mind and body.
To understand what is involved in the process of training your mind and body to overcome bad habit you are directed to think for awhile on the process by which a child learns how to walk.
You take for granted the child has first mastered perfectly the act of traditional crawling. Maybe her parents want to encourage her to learn how to walk by holding her two hands. This serves as a big support and encourages the child take the difficult first few steps.
The child would drop back to crawling in little time. Yet, she would need all the encouragement of the entire family to painfully repeat this exercise daily.
She may fall many times. She may cry for sometime. Not withstanding, the exercise goes on. The first step without the help of her parents is the greatest achievement ever.
From then of the child continues on her own to amuse her parents and feel some independence.
Suddenly, as her desire to grow drives her so fast, after much repeated practice the child stands up and walks joyfully without consciously thinking of it.
She has even forgotten how painful it was to make these first few steps and the joy she formerly derived from crawling.
The miracle has happened. The process of her walking has been taken over by the automatic habit mind - her subconscious.
She now walks about at ease by habit. At her last stage crawling becomes painful while walking becomes joy and amusement. She has replaced the habit of crawling with that of walking. This is the same process you are going to follow to overcome any bad habit.
You must exchange the bad with the good. You must overcome bad habit by developing a good one in its place.
